The College requires all students be equipped with an Apple MacBook that is capable of running the latest Mac operating system (macOS).
If you choose to purchase a new device, the minimum device specifications are as follows:
MacBook Air 13" (13-inch)
Apple M2, M3 or M4 chip
8GB memory
256GB storage
This has been selected based on device connectivity, reliability, high performance, and battery life, and ensures your student is equipped with a device suitable for use as a College learning tool.
Families can purchase their MacBook from any store or reseller of their choosing.
EduCom IT, an Authorised Apple Reseller and Service Provider located nearby in Smeaton Grange, have developed a special Technology Portal for each Catholic Education, Diocese of Wollongong secondary school to assist families with purchasing the correct device. You can access the St Benedict's Portal by visiting https://www.educomit.com.au/dow/ and clicking the St Benedict's logo.
Laptops must also be carried in a protective case when moving between classes to avoid accidental damage to the device. It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that they care for and protect their device to ensure that no accidents happen. The College recommends a case similar to the STM Dux. The features of this case provide a high level of protection around the entire device. Please be advised that soft cloth, material or neoprene cases offer minimal protection for the Macbook.
In the event that you are unable to purchase the device outright, resellers have a number of finance options that will be available to parents and carers. In the case of genuine financial hardship, please contact your student's Year Coordinator.
