Warranty and Repairs

Please read carefully the information below.

During 2022 we have seen many students come to the IT Office with laptops requiring repair. As some of these students have devices without Apple Care+ the repairs have at times exceeded $750. Some students we have seen twice in the same month for the same repairs requiring another $750 to repair the laptop once again. These repairs could have been drastically reduced ($149 versus $750) if Apple Care+ had been purchased within 60 days of the laptop purchase.

Accidents do happen. When they do it is imperative that the device is repaired quickly and returned to the student to minimise disruption to learning. For this reason, we strongly recommend the purchase of AppleCare + for Mac ( AppleCare+ for Mac provides expert technical support and additional hardware coverage from Apple, including unlimited incidents of accidental damage protection. Each incident is subject to a service fee of A$149 for screen damage or external enclosure damage, or A$429 for other accidental damage. In addition, you’ll get 24/7 priority access to Apple experts by chat or phone through Coverage begins on your AppleCare+ purchase date. The cost of repair for a device with AppleCare + is significantly reduced compared to repairs on devices that are not covered. These prices may change occasionally as they are controlled by external suppliers.

An Authorised Apple Repair Centre (EducomIT - Smeaton Grange) collects/drops off to the College daily, and will still offer this service to all BYOD devices. This will include AppleCare+ covered items and outside of warranty items. Full details can then be forwarded to the parents or carers in which during this repair time College supplied loan equipment can be made available. If there are any quotation approvals needed or invoicing matters parents/carers will need to deal with the Authorized Apple Repair Centre (EducomIT - Smeaton Grange) directly. Repairs are normally around 5 working days once the quotation or warranty has been approved. Parents can also choose to have their device repaired by other vendors, however, it is recommended that this is carried out by an Authorised Apple Repair Centre to ensure that the warranty is not void.
